I am 15 and know some people my age who go into Shisha bars and smoke it from the massive pipes, and i was wondering what the legal age to do this was. thanks.

noo not 16 mate, its 18, smoking in the uk is 18, why is shisha any different.. but some workers let you in, yeah they really want money

Officially the legal age is 16, and i do say officially !!

How old do you have to be to go to a Shisha bar in the UK?

Ever been to a hookah bar? Did you ever think twice before sucking on the pipe? Some think that hookahs are a better alternative to smoking cigarettes… WRONG.

According to NYTimes.com, a study from the Journal of Pediatrics did a questionnaire between 2007-2008,  with a little over 1,000 people ages 18-24 who had also participated in a study on nicotine use in teens. about 3/4 of the students completed the questionnaire, of those 23% reported to have smoked tobacco in a water pipe (hookah) in the past year.

The United States has had studies on college students and guestimates that almost 20% had tried a hookah in the past 30 days.

“One myth is that because the texture is smoother, it is less toxic, and the water filters out the toxins,” Dr. O’Loughlin said. “That is not at all true.” In fact, she said, the pipes may expose smokers to higher amounts of nicotine and heavy metals than cigarettes.

Hookahs vs. Cigarettes

CRANSTON –– an application for a 24-hour license application turned into a call for a show-cause hearing against Al-Mall Mini Mart after neighbors spoke of alleged illegal activities at the Warwick Avenue store.

More than 50 neighbors filled the Council Chambers Monday night to complain to the City Council safety services and licenses committee that the business had trashed their neighborhood, piling up garbage on the lot and sidewalks, that customers repeatedly blocked access to private driveways and that increased traffic created hazardous conditions in a mostly single-family residential neighborhood.

They said the business stayed open past its closing hours –– said to be 2 a.m. They complained of pipes and other alleged drug paraphernalia being sold in plain sight and of a hookah bar being run out of the store and pizza parlor. others complained of loud music.

Neighbors said granting the license could set a precedent for other businesses to apply for the same license.

City officials said they were aghast to hear the allegations, which they said they had never heard before, and, on a unanimous vote, rejected the 24-hour license application.

that vote was followed by another unanimous vote calling for a show-cause hearing, which could lead to revocation of the business licenses.

At issue, city officials said, is whether the business had the necessary licenses for the businesses that have been allegedly operating at its 41 Warwick Ave. store, whether it had complied with the conditions attached to the licenses that it did have and whether it complied with state law.

No one from Al-Mall Mini Mart attended the hearing.

The show-cause hearing has been tentatively scheduled for Sept. 13.

Neighbors vent anger at store

The primary reason why hookah is enjoyed so extensively around the world and has been so for so many years is because it is an exquisite and unique way to smoke tobacco. While many people do the same in cigarettes, pipes and cigars; hookah smoking uses tobacco that is juicy and flavored and is more of a hobby and a tradition than it is an addiction.

But the fact is that the tobacco in the bowl of the hookah can be replaced with other smoking materials as well, namely opium and other drugs that produce a dangerous and harmful alternative. While a lot of people are not aware of it but this substitution was done years ago but not as public or wide-spread as the use of tobacco in hookah smoking.Opium is a drug obtained from opium poppy plants and which contains narcotic materials such as morphine and opiate alkaloid; these are also chemically processed to produce heroin, a popular drug. On the other hand, Cannabis which is more popularly known as marijuana is another drug usually used in the dried and herbal form. Both of these drugs can be used in the hookah instead of tobacco but these are strong drugs which leave the person disoriented and dazed. Most importantly, these drugs are illegal and addictive and their abuse can result in disastrous health effects.

Some decades ago, the hookah was viewed in the West as a means to introduce and popularize a new and unique method to use drugs such as cannabis and opium but that is not quite so today. College students and youngsters view hookah smoking just as a relaxing activity that can be shared with friends and family alike. People who smoked cigarettes have either quit and switched to occasional hookah smoking or have substituted part of cigarette smoking with hookah smoking. But most of these kids used tobacco and not drugs; they prefer to use flavored and juicy tobacco that is cheaper, safer and legal rather than use expensive drugs in the hookah.

However, the other side of the story is the fact that people also do use the hookah as a means to smoke opium, cannabis and other drugs, while they may do this in the privacy of their homes or someplace else, they use hookah as another means of doing drugs. and while a lot of people would criticize the introduction of hookahs into the West based solely on this reason, the fact is that hookah smoking in the West and what it has been through the years in the East have a lot of differences; even smoking hash and opium has had its differences between the two parts of the world.

In the past drugs were used only occasionally and only by some people in the Middle East where hookah use was prominent. But in the West, people who do use the hookah for doing drugs use it excessively and over-use them most of the time adding fuel to their addiction. On the other hand, the purpose of hookah throughout history has specifically been to enjoy the art of smoking flavored tobacco with the closest of friends.

Use of Cannabis and Opium in Hookahs « My Blog

I want to find a local shop in the area (doesn’t have to be Seattle proper) that sells good hookah for a good price with a large selection. all I’ve been able to find are gaudy pipes in the little tobacco shops that have very little to choose from. is there a place that specializes in hookahs that look a little more modern? I heard there were some places on the east side, but I haven’t been able to find them.

Where can I buy quality hookah pipes in the Seattle area?

I don’t care about the price; just so long as it is the best quality.
