Anyone own a personal hookah?

I love hookah! I'm interested in getting my own pipe for personal use and I'm just curious if it's worth it. I don't know anyone with their own so I figured I'd ask here! are there any cautions you would warn against or 'must-haves'? theres one I have in mind, it's a 10 inch mini single hosed hookah. I'd probably use it for myself and my roomate and the occasional friend. is it hard to clean & maintain? Do you know any good sites to get quality supplies? Thanks for any tips and tricks!!

I clean mine by taking it apart and running it through the dishwasher, without the hose.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a NYC spot with good Moroccan food (must have good b'steeya/bastilla) and good shisha thats not crazy expensive, but with wide variety of 'flavors'?

Horus (Egyptian) and Kush (Moroccan) I've already checked, and though ambience and decor are quite lovely at Kush i am not enthused by their brief menu and seeming lack of b'steeya (maybe its a special request sort of thing, just not on the menu?)

i havent found a place with both good Moroccan eats and good, well-priced shisha…some HELP PLEASE! (Thanks!!)

Hookah from ebay. Good or bad?

Hi, yesterday I tried hookah smoking for the first time. I loved it so much and I want to buy a hookah of my own. I was looking around and saw hookah sets for 100+. I'm a HS student without a job and paying this by myself so 100+ was out of the question. I looked on Ebay and saw a pink hookah set for about 40$. it seems a bit sketchy since all the hookahs I've seen cost much more than that.

well if you want to go ahead…and the very small ones cost that much…bigger ones cost more. if you want it buy one in person.

Hubbly Bubbly for relaxation

This place is pretty cool – not on the outside, but it sure isinteresting inside.

It’s the Hubbly Bubbly Hookah Lounge at 6288 Government Way.Located in the former Graffiti Skate Shop building (next toFrame-It and Par-Time Golf), this place is called a lounge for areason. It’s a place for people age 18 and over to puff hookahs orshishas (flavored tobaccos) and relax. It’s filled with colorfulsofas, cushions and carpets. Customers rent the hookahs (pipes) andbuy the tobaccos and smoke them in the lounge. They can also buyTurkish coffee, mint tea and soft drinks.

In this case, “lounge” is a verb or noun in the relaxationsense, not the bar-serving-alcohol sense.

“Drunk people and hot coals don’t mix,” explained owner Mus(pronounced moose) Rebahi. “Hookahs were invented in India 2,000years ago and were developed in Turkey and the Middle East.”

Flavors can be traditional, exotic or house mixes, and twopeople can share a hookah with sessions from 30 to 60 minutes.Rebahi describes the decor as contemporary Moroccan. • I got five e-mails and two phone calls expounding that KFC(Kentucky Fried Chicken) on Appleway had closed. After being openfor 38 years and serving probably tens of thousands of drumsticksand thighs and undergoing two remodels and three owners, it didindeed close. The only all-you-can-eat KFC in the area is now atthe outlet in Hayden. I’d love to tell you what the Cd’A buildingwill be – but I can’t yet.

• Fourth Street soon will be the hottest place for newbusinesses. At least three will open in the next month in Mid-Town.maybe this will make up for all the empty spaces on East ShermanAvenue.

• I wanted to whine about this earlier, but it seems like such awaste when a youth organization will raise money by getting pledgesfor the hours the members sit in a rocking chair. You’d think thosehours could be picking up litter or volunteering somewhere.

• Watch next week for an interesting education structure beingbuilt in Hayden.

Fists Fly at the Hookah Bar

As we’ve been reporting, there have been a flurry of incidents around the country in recent weeks in which people have tried to intimidate or attack American Muslims or people they believed to be Muslims. but along with these ugly incidents there have been a backdrop of cases of people who seemed to want to commit a hate crime but were either too drunk, too stupid or too disorganized to pull it off or even give a really clear idea of what they were trying to do.

Meet Kevin Morris, 31, of West Haven, Connecticut. last Thursday he swaggered into Fire & Ice Hookah Lounge on Campbell Avenue in West Haven. just what happened isn’t entirely clear since there appears to be only one press account of the incident. but Morris entered the Lounge and, in the words of Amanda Pinto of the new Haven Register, began "shout[ing] profanities and racial epithets at a group of black and Arabic people."

Pinto doesn’t say what the epithets were. And it’s not entirely clear what the clientele is or what kind of place the Fire & Ice Hookah Lounge is. but one thing’s clear. it ain’t a mosque. And while Middle East-themed and seemingly catered to by at least some people of Middle Eastern descent, the belly dancers, "Gina" and "Katie," who perform on Friday evenings and other stuff on the website gives the sense that if it caters to Muslims, it’s not for the particularly devout. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that. it seems like a fun place. here are some pictures of recent evenings at the Lounge.)

In any case, Morris comes into the Lounge shouting his epithets, apparently really drunk and at some point he tried to grab the bartender by throat or strangle him or something. but things did not go well for Morris. the folks in the establishment were not interested in that kind of an evening and proceeded to administer Morris a serious beating. As Pinto put it, Morris "was punched in the face by at least one of the people he was shouting at" and when police finally arrived he was "bleeding profusely from the face."

Morris was treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital and was charged with 3rd degree intimidation due to bias and 2nd degree breach of peace. he is still in police custody.

Starbuzz is hands down one of the best types of tobacco flavors I've tried for the past 4 years out of the constant brands they keep putting out in the market.
My secret to making the taste even better is watering it down.
Basically you take out a good chunk you can put in your hand, and while you're at the sink let the water poor on your hand while you squeeze the tobacco. Don't worry the molasses syrup will be rinsed out, however, the taste will still be there.
The difference? It tastes better, doesn't leak, and it actually lasts longer than not watering it down. just the other day, I timed it with 2 other friends, and changing the coals twice while smoking it generously, it lasted 1hr. & 40min.

Today I tried a new flavor: Caramel Apple Starbuzz.

Flavor: if you’ve ever had caramel apple you can certainly tell that this shisha tastes exact the same. you can actually taste both caramel and apple. its also not too sweet at all which I wouldn’t like.

Smoke: its a very good thick smoke. Doesn’t take a lot of effort to get good smokes.

Smoothness: its not as smooth as Blackberry starbuzz or the BlueMist Starbuzz, but it is still pretty smooth comparing to other tobaccos on the market.

Overall: It’s a good overall flavor. I strongly recommend it to anyone that likes either apple or caramel.
