A jury convicted Orellana in March of second-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon and attempted murder with use of a deadly weapon.
Gahagan, 21, was shot outside Olive Mediterranean Grill and Hookah Bar on Sunset Road, near Sandhill Road.
The shooting followed a fight outside the restaurant between Gahagan and another man.
Orellana also wounded a man during the shooting, according to court records.
Prosecutors had sought a first-degree murder conviction against Orellana, which would have garnered him even more prison time. Prosecutor Joshua Tomsheck asked Smith to sentence Orellana to the maximum term.
